Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie has received a shot in the arm, thanks to a local thrift shop. MCC Portage Shop Manager Kevin Hamm presented BBBS Executive Director Dawn Froese with a cheque for $3,500, with funds raised during the organization's MCC Day back in June. Froese says the funding will go a long way to supporting their work, noting all funding helps them connect children with mentors, find mentors, and keep tabs on their mentor's progress. She's grateful for the funding, noting the MCC have always been very generous in the community.

"MCC has been a really good partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and we appreciate it. MCC is a place where a lot of our clients come for the things they need, and MCC has a really big heart for supporting the community and the people who need it."

The monthly charity days have supported numerous organizations over the years, something Hamm says they're always happy to take part in. He says it's important to give back to the community, especially for such a great organization.

"We're happy to share our many, many blessings. Our community is so good to us, and we're happy when can help out in this small way. Big Brothers is one of the great charitable organizations in the city, and we're happy we could help out."

The next MCC Charity Day is August 30th, with proceeds going to support the Canadian Mental Health Association Central Region.
