Portage la Prairie City Council reminds you there's an opportunity to save some money on your 2016 municipal tax bill.

Councillor Brent Budz is chair of the Finance Committee, and points out you'll receive a discount if you pay the bill before July. He adds it's on a sliding scale.

"As an example, in February, there's a 0.55% (reduction), and that scale drops each month, as we get closer to July. It goes from March, at 0.44%, April 0.33%, May 0.22%, and June 0.11%. A lot of people do take advantage of the opportunity to have that reduction."

Budz is also looking forward to the February 27th Council meeting, where we'll see the 2017 city budget for the first time.

"The budget is something that's been worked on by department heads, by administration and management, and Council themselves have been really involved in making sure that we're ready to present our budget. Our budget will ready under New Business on the 27th, so we're excited about that process. it's the first step in a series of steps as it relates to our financials in 2017."

That meeting will be at the Glesby Centre.
