The City of Portage la Prairie is eyeing up more land for a water expansion.

During this week's council meeting, delegates set a vote to purchase a parcel of land. The Water Treatment Plant will require expansion soon to accommodate the increase in water demands. Councillor Wayne wall elaborates.

"Based on the design completed by Stantec Engineering, the expanded facility will not fit on current city property available at the existing site. It is proposed to subdivide and purchase 1.24 acres of the land to the North East side of the water treatment plant property, currently listed as 110 Yellowquill Trail."

The current property owner and city have agreed to a purchase price of $92,000. Wall says the council has voted, and the land purchase will move forwards.

"The city will also cover all costs associated with subdivision and purchase. As the purchase of this land is not within budget, it is recommended that this be expensed to the Utility Infrastructure reserve. This reserve allows for any expenses relating to purchases, repairs or enhancements to the cities utility infrastructure."
