If you've noticed many streets dug-up around Portage la Prairie lately, it's because the summer paving program has begun.

Transportation Committee Chair Melissa Draycott says continued upheaval of streets can be expected throughout the coming months as the contractor continues work to complete the paving schedule.

"We will see some major areas of the city re-paved, as well as some smaller sections and new sidewalks," Draycott explains. "One of the major areas you will see done is 18th street NW, over the tracks and on the way to Walmart. When they do get into that area it will be a shutdown for quite a few days and an alternate route will have to be taken. But that's something we're very much looking forward to have happen because it's become such a major roadway now."
