Talks are beginning to heat up over the future use of Portage la Prairie's Correctional Facility and Courthouse. With the recent shift of inmates out of Portage to their new home in Headingley, the jail now stands empty. The courthouse has also, in recent years, seen minimal use as Provincial Court is actually run out of the Provincial Building.  Portage M.L.A. Ian Wishart says discussions have been ongoing as to what could be put into the buildings. Wishart says an amalgamation of the two into a single, practical facility could be an option.  He notes that a similar concept was done in Brandon a few years ago where eveything was centralized and upgraded. Wishart says all this talk however is still in the very early stages of discussion.
