Those looking to make a positive impact on mental health in the community could be in luck.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Central Region announced its seeking additional members to sit on the board of directors. The organization says in a release its looking for people willing to make a commitment for at least two years of service.

"The board of directors is responsible for strategic direction and oversight of the organization, and ensuring we are serving the needs of our community and stakeholders," says CMHA Central Region executive director Jordan Friesen. "To fill the role, we are looking for individuals from across south central Manitoba ... people who support our mission, share our values and who have some experience with, either themselves or a family, dealing with mental illness."

"We're looking for people who understand to some degree the mental health services available, and want to improve them."

Friesen notes CMHA's regional board has had vacancies since its annual general meeting, and the organization is hoping to fill the roles in a timely manner as its a busy time for the board.

"We are in the midst of reviewing some of our board governance processes," Friesen explains. "It's a busy time ... we're looking for individuals who are willing to volunteer anywhere between 8-10 hours a month, serving on the board and participating in regular meetings and the work that goes with it."

The deadline to submit an application for a board position is Jan. 31, 2017. Additional information is available here.
