The Koko Platz Community Rec Centre may be a complete loss following last month's fire that ravaged the grounds, but the organization is vowing to rebuild.

RCMP arrested a 13-year-old boy from Portage in relation to the April 29 blaze and charged the youth with two counts of arson. Community club president Adrienne Matthews-McCulley says losing the facility is devastating.

"This has been part of our community for 50-plus years. The club has always been run by volunteers. It is owned by the city, but they graciously allow us to operate as a not-for-profit," says Matthews-McCulley. "Tons of volunteer hours have gone into this facility, it was well used by the community, and it certainly filled a significant void for recreation in the community."

ld like to make significant donations to help rebuild. K.F Aerospace was one of the first companies to hop on board by donating to the rebuild.

"Optimistically, there'll be insurance to help with the rebuild, but that doesn't always cover everything. This is also an opportunity for us to potentially expand the club," says Matthews-McCulley. "K.F Aerospace has a lot of employees that have utilized the club, and they were devastated with the news, so the company wanted to help."

She adds this is an opportunity to make the club fully accessible, including wheelchair ramps and better bathrooms. There is no set schedule to rebuild, but when they do so, the club hopes to host more focus groups and community events. Matthews-McCulley explains how you can help out.

"We will be putting out a call for some board members and some volunteers to help with the rebuild projects," says Matthews-McCulley. "We're looking to make this as much of a triumph as we can and be able to have something great for the entire community to utilize."
