Manitoba's Community in Bloom Judges made their stop in Portage la Prairie today.

Judge Martha Barwinsky is the City Forester for the City of Winnipeg. She gives her thoughts on the community's work.

"I can compare it to one I've seen before, but I'm actually incredibly impressed at how quickly things have been cleaned up from the storm from the previous couple of weeks. That was the first thing I was impressed with, but just the community involvement. I've also really enjoyed learning the history of the community, that's been fascinating, one of the best things so far today."

Former Parks Manager for the City of Winnipeg Don Budinsky is the other judge. He outlines why the program was started.

"To help facilitate communities coming together to put their best for forward, and to see where they can improve, and to enter into a continuous improvement cycle. It's really about engaging the community and having all parts of the community whether it's business, institutions, community groups come together with the municipality and just make the city a better place to live and work and play."

Head down to the PCRC's barbecue until 7 p.m. at Island Park.
