Last night, the community came together to support the Cyr family, following last month's fatal fire at Delta Beach.

A fundraising pork supper was organized by Donna Moman at Portage Evangelical Church, and about 100 people took part.
Moman acknowledges it only took a week to put together, and explains why she decided to do it.

"We had a fire in 2007, and lost everything, so I have a bit of sympathy toward that. No loss of life, so I could never understand that, but I really just wanted them to feel the community support."

Moman isn't surprised at how many people attended the dinner, even though it was arranged in only a week.

"This community is really supportive. The merchants were supportive in donating things, and I figured people would show up, if nothing else to support the family. To at least say 'Hey, we're thinking about you, and we care about you.' I think we raised about $1700."

Vicki Thiessen was one of those there, and says it was important to show support and love for the family. She's not surprised at the good turnout.

"I mean, even just people from our church, there are a lot that would support a cause like this. In the community as well, where we're situated, there are lost of people around. We've done a lot of community outreach type things here at our church, so people know about our church, and where it is, so that doesn't surprise me that we had that many."

Here are pictures from last night.
