Stranded on an island, and raising money for STARS air ambulance in rural Manitoba. That's what Enns Brothers Ag Sales and Marketing Manager Kevin Comte experienced in the 'Rescue on the Island' fundraiser. Participants compete to reach their fund-raising goals, while donors donate online, so they can earn a flight home.

Comte explains why he's involved.

Kevin Comte"We supported one of the participants from 2015 on the Rescue On The Island program. And through that we got to know STARS better. The Enns Brothers team decided we should be participating this year, seeing as how great the STARS cause is for rural Manitoba. We service farmers, recreational enthusiasts, people in cottage country, . . . you name it. STARS is there when we need them."

He shares what it was like.

"It's been an absolute blast. We had to make a few changes to the schedule with the rain. But all in all it's worked out great. I just did a challenge just right now. There's some money on the line for the one who does it the fastest. It has to do with saving lives of some actors, I guess you can say, on the island. It was learning how to to do some first responder type of activities."

Comte adds he really became aware of just how gruelling rescue work is for STARS teams.

"I'm obviously out of shape, There's some running to do there, and it was tough getting around. But it's pretty neat to see what they do. I learned pretty quickly that I wouldn't be cut out for it. It's amazing what these people can do in real-life situations."

He says support's been amazing.

"I'm absolutely amazed by the generous support from coworkers, business partners, customers, you name it."

This year's goal is $450,000.
