As part of the province-wide EMS overhaul that's seeing many rural stations consolidated or closed, Lundar's station will reportedly shut down with the area being serviced by EMS in St. Laurent and Eriksdale. The planned closure isn't sitting well with Coldwell Reeve Brian Sigfusson.

"We started the ambulance, along with St. Laurent, before (the province) even wanted to be a part of it," Sigfusson explains. "It's not a bright move. And that's not cost-saving. We've already got a place that's good, a good building and everything. Why would you want to change the program?"

Sigfusson expects wait times will increase and put people's lives in the Lundar area at risk. In addition, it may also have a negative impact on business.

"We already have one large business saying if we lose the ambulance they're thinking of pulling out," he says.

There's been no indication given to the RM of Coldwell yet as to when the Lundar EMS will close.
