Big Al's Corn Maze opened it's field last year on the Trans-Canada Highway near Austin. Owner Alan Tait says it's become quite an attraction.

"And it seems to be a big hit around here. You're pretty well guaranteed to get lost once, but I put markers in. And I give them a map. You have to have a map or you'd never get through it."

Tait says he operates The Corn Stop, and the maze is situated just west of his booth.

"We sell sweet corn, and it's just an extension of it. We plant silage corn for the corn maze so it comes out about eight to ten feet tall."

Tait describes the maze.

"We cover ten acres. It's a picture of a tractor pulling a wagon-load of pumpkins. You have to give yourself over an hour. A lady walked it the other night with a walking gauge and traveled 2.2 miles before she left it. "

Tait explains how they incorporate a picture into the maze by digitizing it, and accessing it via GPS to plant the corn in the image they desire.

He says if you come to the maze, bring bug spray and it's best to have running shoes. He says since they started the maze, people from Texas and California drove by on the highway and decided to take it in, and several from all around the area have enjoyed it. He adds they're open now and will run through to Hallowe'en.
