The Municipality of Norfolk-Treherne council discussed damage sustained at its Cottonwood Campground this past summer. Reeve Craig Spencer says the campground's namesake trees were devastated.

"We had a storm come through here in Cottonwood (campground) and Treherne on July 19th. We had a huge amount of damage. There are about 120 cottonwood trees. I have no idea of the height of them. I bet you they would have been four stories or higher. They were huge, huge trees. A cottonwood tree has a long lifespan, and unfortunately for these ones their lifespan was over."

He explains about 60 of them came down along the middle of the campground, and they removed a perimeter of the trees this past fall. Spencer adds they planted more trees with a grant from Manitoba Hydro, but more work has to be completed next year.

Spencer notes the removal crew who cleaned up the damaged trees did a phenomenal job over what turned out to be about a four-day period.
