Last Monday night's Portage City Council meeting heard a request from the Portage Flying Club for more aircraft signage along Saskatchewan Avenue.

Club member Ross Tufford says they'd like a little more profile in the city.

"For the ease of being able to locate the airport for people coming in from out of town, primarly," he says, "And not only people from out of town, I'm amazed continually how many people don't know that there is an aerodrome in the north end of Portage."

Tufford also asked for low-flying aircraft signage near the airport in the northwest part of the city, noting club membership's increased.

"I've been a member since 1982, and to my knowledge, we've never had a single complaint," he says, "However, you do see people that are sort of taken aback when you're approaching the runways, flying in and out."

Mayor Irvine Ferris says the city administration has to check with the province about signs on Saskatchewan Avenue, but hopes the signs will be up in the near future.
