This is a special year for the Citizens on Patrol Program in Portage la Prairie, and one city councillor wants you to know about it.

Brent Froese tells us COPP celebrates 25 years in this city, which is the longest running group in the province.

"They've got 40 members, or 40+ members, six of whom have 20+ years of service, so that's a really solid organization," he says, "The RCMP feel it's an essential part of their operation by now. All the volunteers, over the years, that have put time into that operation, it's often unnoticed, but really important to keep our city safe."

Froese stresses COPP operates in the background.

"Literally at night," he says, "The Citizens On Patrol group in Portage provides an essential service, without public recognition. Just great volunteers over the years."
