The president of the Portage la Prairie local of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers made a presentation to Portage city council last week. Giselle Lisoway says she asked council to send a letter to the federal Minister of Public Services and Procurement, noting their concern is in regard to the standing committee which calls for the continued suspension on the conversion of door-to-door postal delivery. Lisoway says they'd like the federal government to reinstate door-to-door delivery to the communities which lost it almost two years ago. She notes Canada Post has a wonderful network from coast to coast to coast, adding it would be a shame to pull back at a time when they're properly positioned to expand services into so many communities.

Lisoway says one big concern here in Portage is that the mail gets sent to Winnipeg and then sent back, noting ideally the turnaround time should be two business days. She adds there's no reason why that mail can't be processed right here in town in order to improve service to the residents of Portage la Prairie.
