The Portage Curling Club was presented with $60,000 cheque last week.

That's how much profit was raised from the Viterra Championships held at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie just over a month ago. The cheque was presented to PCC President Hartley Vanstone by co-chairs of the Viterra Championship organizing committee Al Dahl and Ryan Hyde.

"The money came from all of our sponsors that contributed to putting on the event..." says Dahl. "... it also came from admissions, bar sales, and 50/50 sales all combined. We were hoping to cover our expenses with just the sponsorships from the community and they came out huge. We're pretty well right there and the rest was kind of icing on the cake."

"We're thrilled by it," says Vanstone. "It's a great number, and when you come in with an idea of $40,000 for the club which supports the club for year-to-year activities, and $60,000 blows that away. It's awesome."

Vanstone says there are a couple of ways they may use the funds like adding it to the building fund for major purchases that come along or are repairs required, or for any future planning endeavours they might want to follow through on.

"In 2012 we hosted the Provincial Ladies Championship and it was a resounding success, and the Men's this year too," adds Vanstone. "It just speaks well to the venue we have in Portage and the volunteers."
