An election is looming for Dakota Tipi First Nation. Incumbent David Pashe is running for a third term as chief, and says he was pleased with the turnout at a recent forum for chief and council candidates. Pashe notes his own platform will continue with the vision he has for the community, including getting Dakota Tipi out of debt. He says they've now managed to pay off most of the mortgages and get caught up with the insurance and interest, adding they've also put a stop to a lot of the frivolous spending.

Pashe notes if he's re-elected, he'll also continue contract negotiations with some of the pipelines and Manitoba Hydro's Bipole III project. He says they're currently completing a traditional land use study, after which they'll go to band meetings and do a referendum vote so the whole community can decide if they want to accept the pipelines' offer. Pashe notes another piece of his platform involves the land entitlement program, adding half of their band members are living in urban centres and many of them would like to come home when they retire. He says that's how he'd like to see those land entitlement funds from the government used in the future.

Francis Pashé, Keith Pashé, Billy Moore, Karl Stone, and Darlene Walters-Myran are also candidates.
