The MP for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa has officially been sworn-in in Ottawa.

Dan Mazier won the election last month, and is a first-time MP.

"It was very surreal," says Mazier. "That's the way I'd explain this journey, right from the nomination, right through to the election, to swearing-in. There's a lot of firsts that I'm experiencing here in the last year and a bit. I have to say (being sworn-in) was probably the top of the hill, so far, anyway."

Mazier says they are ready for when parliament begins December 5th.

"We've got our Ottawa staff hired here right now, and we're getting that office established because we are going to be sitting here next Thursday for the throne speech," says Mazier. "That's under control. We're just getting the constituency itself figured out."

When asked who he looks to for advice and information, Mazier pointed to two other MPs whom he dealt with often when he was the President of Keystone Agricultural Producers.

"Larry Maguire, I had a very good working relationship (with him) before all of this. He is the MP down in (Brandon-Souris). He's been very supportive. I have to say, he's probably my go-to guy right now," says Mazier. "[I look to] James Bezan (MP for Selkirk-Interlake-Eastman) as well. I knew him before, so, those are the two that I have a tendency to lean on a little bit more here."

Mazier says the unsung heroes are the staff members for the House of Commons. He says they do not receive enough credit for how much help they have provided incoming first-time MPs.
