Dealing With Drug Shortages

The delivery of health services in the Assiniboine RHA have not been impacted by a shortage in injectable medications.

Sandoz, a drug manufacturer in Quebec has scaled back production to allow for production line upgrades.  Glenda Short is the Executive Director of Allied Health Services, she says they are working very closley with Manitoba Health, and Manitoba Health is working with Health Canada to source out new options to bring in new medications from overseas or the United States.  Short explains they are doing a review with physicians and pharmacies of all client prescriptions, and if at all possible are moving some to other forms of the same injectable meds.  This shortage is expected to last throughout the year.
