Newly constructed campsites at Delta Beach will officially open to the public in the spring of 2018.

"We're pretty excited because it's really coming together," says Deputy Reeve Roy Tufford. "It's not going to be ready this year at all, so we're going to be putting signage up there because people will tend to use it whether it's ready or not, it's pretty hard to keep them out of there. We don't have a fence, but we'll put signs up restricting vehicles, and it should be ready for the spring of 2018."

Tufford's correct when he says it's tough to keep people out of the under construction area at the public beach. Some folks have been enjoying the new parking area right on the water for a few days now, especially on hot days. He says there's still a lot of things that need to be determined like who'll be looking after the site when it's operational.

"Some lots will be seasonal but how we're going to handle that will be developed over the winter. We are going to have a great campground in place but we don't want to manage it. So either we hire a manager and we collect all the money, or we lease it to a private person that would like to use it as their business as long as we can have some say as to some of the rules so there is always access to the public or new people to come and camp there."

Tufford says the last thing they want is every site to be made seasonal. "That may be good for the operator because they never have to worry about renting or doesn't have to have a phone number, but that's not good for the region. All that does is get the whole thing full so nobody can come and visit the region, so we'll probably be stipulating that a certain percent can't be rented for more than four days at a time, or are open on weekends."

50 sites are being constructed, of which 34 will be serviced with water and 30 amps of electricity. Tufford's not sure if that will include a gravity sewer, and If there isn't, a dump station will be there for campers, or they'll have to use the holding tanks in their campers. He adds they're actually doing a study right now to see if it's feasible to put a gravity system in while we're at it.

Along with the sites will be a brand new bathroom that's nearly indestructible and flood proof. A playground structure will also be added.
