It's one of the most transformative projects at Republic Park in Portage la Prairie.

That's from Portage Regional Recreation Authority General Manager David Sattler about upgrades to Diamond 7, that were completed last week.

"There's been a huge infield renovation done," he says, "We scaled back the base paths to the traditional hardball size, so they're not spread from the infield to the fence line. They're scaled back to that six feet, all that sod and grass comes in, and it just gives it that nice, clean, crisp look. It makes it feel quite a bit different over there, even with the sod just being laid."

Sattler anticipates it'll increase activity.

"They actually expanded the infield," he says, "And cut further into the outfield, so that it's identical to Diamond 8. What that does is allows us to host major bantam, midget, and senior tournaments in town. We have two great diamonds for it, along with all the other amenities that are going on. We're really hoping that the baseball community will work to put on some tournaments that we can showcase not just the diamonds, but Portage in general."
