About two and a half weeks remain to sign up for the Portage Community Revitalization Corporations Portage The Prairies Dirt Dash, but they're also in need of some extra hands. That's from PCRC Community Facilitator Victoria Olson, who says while registrations have been going extremely well, they're still in need of about 30 more volunteers.

"We're really looking for volunteers. We need volunteers for all sorts of different things. We're looking for people to do registration, we need to have volunteers for all of our obstacles in case anybody gets hurt so they can radio our first-aiders. We need people at the concession, we just need people everywhere."

Olson says there's no shortage of excitement surrounding the city's first mud run, noting the fun of the event extends beyond the participants. She says they offer tickets for those who want to watch the event while being a part of the fun. However, citing similar events held elsewhere, Olson says by volunteering you'll get a unique opportunity.

"Volunteers at these types of events are having a blast. Who doesn't love watching people fall, trip and get muddy? It's hilarious, the volunteers have a great time, and you'll get lots of free stuff as a volunteer."

Olson says planning this event has been stressful at times, as they work to ensure everything comes together perfectly. However, she says the organizing is coming along well, and they're already starting to plan the course itself. She checked out the route at Rotary Republic Park and says she's already identifying just where to place each of the obstacles. While she's keeping the exact obstacles to be included a secret, she does hint there could be an impressively large slip and slide.

The Dirt Dash is set for September 24th, and you have until August 31 to register to participate. To register or volunteer, contact the PCRC.
