The Lions Club of Portage is once again partnering with Purina for the annual Walk for Dog Guides. The walk is on Saturday, May 28th and raises money to help train dog guides for Canadians with visual, hearing, medical or physical disabilities. Lions Club member Wilf Schellenberg explains the event.

Lions Club Member Wilf Schellenberg"This is an event that the Lions Club has been holding for a few years now. It's to raise money for people who need dogs for assistance, such as people who need them for their eyesight, hearing ear dogs, service dogs, for seizure response, for autism assistance and for diabetic alert."

Schellenberg notes the walk is put on by the the Lions and Lioness Club's from Portage, Oakville and MacGregor and will begin at 10am at Island Park.

"The walk will be this Saturday and we ask that people come register at 9. We'll accept any pledges that people have raised for the walk at that time as well. After that, people can carry on and walk along the lake and come back and have some refreshments."

Schellenberg says pledge forms are still available for the walk if you'd like to donate.

"Pledge forms are available at the veterinarian's offices, the pet food stores, the groomers and kennels, or you can call me directly at 857-4309. Pledge forms are also available by going online to www.purinawalkfordogguides.com. "

Schellenberg says you can bring your dog out, no matter what size it may be, and walk along the lake with other community members, noting even if you don't have a dog, you can still come out and walk.
