Island Parks once again going to the ducks. The third annual Adult and Teen Challenge Rubber Duck race takes place Saturday at Splash Island. Proceeds from this year's event will go toward the organization's Men's Home in Winnipeg, which helps those struggling with addictions. Central Canada Teen Challenge Development Director Daniel Emond's hoping for a good crowd, noting the role the program played in his recovery.

Emond tried cocaine for the first time in university and says it only took six months for the drug to take control of his life. He felt he was hopeless when struggling with the addiction when he met someone who had introduced him to teen challenge. It's now been more than ten year's clean for him, and he hopes everyone recognizes the important role their program can play in helping others.

"It would just mean so much for us to get a huge turnout and for more people to come. We still have many ducks that need to be adopted to get into the race. The cool thing is that Funk's Toyota and Noventis Credit Union are supplying the grand prize, a 2015 Toyota Corolla right from the dealership."

Saturday's event will see those from the Brandon Women's Home in attendance, who will be sharing their stories with those taking part in the race. He says Adult and Teen Challenge does some great work across the province and encourages everyone to take part in the day.

"If you haven't heard of it, come on out for the duck race, have a hot dog, or bring the kids for some cotton candy, waterslides, adopt a duck, watch the race, and celebrate freedom and hope with us."

He says support for the event seems to grow every year, a trend he hopes continues this year. The race begins at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, with tickets costing $20 which includes admission to the water park.
