The Municipality of North Norfolk recently updated its emergency plan. Mayor Neil Christoffersen says their Emergency Coordinator goes over the plan each year and updates everything, including the emergency contacts with names and phone numbers. Christoffersen notes Clint Cannon has been doing an excellent job for them, adding he also maintains a list of all the backhoes and other equipment the municipality would need in an emergency. He says Cannon goes through the policy regularly to determine if anything in the area has changed over the past year, then brings the completed document to council for their review. Christoffersen notes at their last meeting council passed a resolution accepting the updated emergency plan and adds they hope they never have to actually use it.

He says this year the assisted living complex in MacGregor opened up so they had to include in their policy how they would handle that during an emergency, but otherwise most of the updating involved basic housekeeping and making sure all the contact information was up to date. Christoffersen notes part of the emergency procedures involve doing some tabletop exercises of mock disasters, adding the most recent one involved a discussion of what they would do if a major tornado came through North Norfolk. He says as they talked around the table they could see how their emergency plan needed some tweaking, so it was a very enlightening discussion and helped keep everyone on their toes.
