Eriksdale Community Club

The town of Eriksdale is halfway to seeing a long sought after project completed. New boards are desperately needed in their arena and Community Club board member Ben Kinkead says the boards have heaved due to the way they were originally put in and it's getting harder and harder to keep them straight and level. When the volunteers put in their ice, which is natural, it takes quite a few more floods and man hours just to get it in because the surface along the boards isn't level.

He adds originally they thought of purchasing new boards but quotes were going upwards of $100,000 thousand dollars, so they decided to purchase a used set out of Alberta for between $15 to $20 thousand. A sub committee is looking at different ways of trying to put them together, maybe combining them with the new ones, to make the best set possible. They recently held a CFRY Talent Show, which helped raise $19,000, but further funds are needed to complete the process.

Kinkead notes every time the Community Club goes to work with a major project they try to look at all revenue sources which might include applying for grants and holding fundraising events. He adds they always welcome contributions as well as volunteer hours whether it be applying for grants or actually assisting with the installation. He adds they are greatly appreciative of the community support shown so far and this is what keeps the centre open.

Anyone interested in making a monetary donation or helping in any way in encouraged to contact one of their board of directors, there's a list of them on the Eriksdale website. The RM office could also provide further information. Kinkead says they'd be happy to people attend a board meeting and provide information or help with the installation. Kinkead stresses it's a work in progress but it's definitely underway, and any help is more than welcome.
