An upgrade was announced for Crescentview School at the Portage la Prairie school board meeting last week.

Superintendent Todd Cuddington says they received word the Public Schools Finance Board would be funding a couple additions to the school. "It's a great opportunity for us to get that funding and to pull that kindergarten room in and ultimately put everyone in the same building," says Cuddington. "So what we'll have when construction is completed is actually 3 new classrooms in total, 2 of which are being funded by public school finance and then by our own division for the 3rd classroom. So we're going to have a nice state of the art addition to Crescentview, there's a lot of need for it based on student numbers so we're excited."

Cuddington says two classrooms will be funded by the Public Schools Finance Board while another classroom will be funded by the Portage la Prairie School Division. Their cost is $350,000. "We don't have the exact amount the finance board will be donating, but it will be a sizeable influx of cash for the construction."

Cuddington says the classroom will be used for the younger years students. He adds construction should start in the spring of 2017 once tenders are complete.
