A waterline's exposed in the Portage Diversion near Portage la Prairie. RM of Portage council awarded a contract to Stantec for the work of burying the line again. Reeve Kam Blight explains what caused the exposure.

Line visible in colder months"There is an exposed waterline in the diversion. It's because of the high water levels and the rainfalls, etc. It's exposed a portion of the waterline that needs to get buried back in and put into the ground properly. It is a DFA (Disaster Financial Assistance) expense that we've got approval to get replaced."

He says a lot of work's required for preparation for its burial.

"We required some extensive engineering to make sure it gets done properly and how it's going to be done. All that was requested by the province. They put the engineering firm (Stantec) in place to do a study on this. So, it's something that's covered 100% by Disaster Financial Assistance. And the work will commence before thaw. Today we just awarded a contract to Stantec to be the project manager on that for us to oversee the operations and the install of that. They're the ones who did the engineering study."
