It was bumper-to-bumper action on Crescent Lake as the Fire on Ice Racing Series came to town on Sunday.

There were about ten drivers who were competing in various classes, driving at speeds nearing 100 km/hr.

Hamish Donaldson was one of the racing stewards for the event this weekend and says they were happy the weather was as nice as it was.

"This year, things kind of threw us around with that meeting of the snowstorms last weekend," says Donaldson. "We were supposed to be here last Sunday."

Fans didn't seem to mind the one week delay, as there was also bumper-to-bumper parking along the banks, with some families making the trek onto the ice to get a closer look.

"This'll be our ninth year here," says Donaldson. "2010 was the one I remember. I was the ice race director then. We had a full one-mile course on the far side. We had some people come in from Regina to race."

He says the drivers and organizers appreciate the support Portage la Prairie provides, and they are looking forward to bringing the racing back next year.
