Many gathered at Island Park in Portage la Prairie Thursday night, as Concerts in the Park continued with its third show of the summer.

Farmer the Band, Grand Forks, B.C., husband and wife duet Glen and Lourine Koide, headlined yesterday's lineup, showcasing their original "Canadiana" inspired folk music. The two have a little twist on how they produce music: both play multiple instruments simultaneously to create a wide array of different sounds.

Lourine and Glen Koide, Farmer the Band, played Island Park as part of Concerts in the Park July 20.

"That's kind of the attraction at first when people start to realize there's percussion coming from somewhere and there's no drummer, " says Lourine. "We try to multi-task because it's just the two of us. Glen plays drums with his feet, and guitar. I play bass, harmonica, high hat and a tambourine on my foot."

Thursday's performance marked the first time the duo had played a park island setting. Both Lourine and Glen enjoyed the outdoor concert venue Portage la Prairie has to offer.

"It's really cool," Glen explains. "The entrance to this is just amazing. I think I had some pre-conceived notion, that this was going to be some really small venue. But it's not, it's nice... better than Stanley Park (in Vancouver)."

“Just don't print that in B.C.,” Glen chuckles.

Concerts in the Park's next show is Thursday, July 27, and features performances by Quite Likely and Snapmare Driver.
