Local artist Faye Hildebrand's Prairie Mountains Exhibit received a warm reception at its Exhibition Opening last night at the Portage and District Arts Centre.

"This is a series I've done in acrylics, and I do a lot of other things as well but for this particular series I've been working on acrylics on small canvases," says Hildebrand.

Some people taking in some of Hildebrand's work.

"I can do them fairly quickly too and I don't have to spend too many hours on them. These ran about seven or nine hours per painting unless I got stuck, and I got stuck on two. I usually like to make sure I finish my image before I go on to the next one, though.

Hildebrand moved to Portage in 2009 and says it's nice to have the gallery at the PDAC. "We used to have an acreage east of Brandon but now we're in a mobile home with a smaller lot. We used to look at five acres of grass and stuff, so it's much better for us here and it's nice to have my work up in Portage."

"There are also some pencil drawings I did back in the 1990's at the exhibit as well," adds Hildebrand. "I was just trying different formats and compositions then. I let my intuition go and a lot of them came out really good."
