A recent influx of federal cash will help to support programs in the Central Plains that look to combat domestic violence. Portage-Lisgar M.P. Candice Hoeppner recently announced almost $299,600 dollars for the Portage Family Abuse Prevention Centre. Centre Executive Director Joyce Schrader says that they are very excited about this support for local projects that are connected to dealing with issues of violence and economic security. Schrader says this funding will go a long way towards addressing womens's issues and perhaps aiding in reaching people that they have not been able to reach in the past.

Over the next few weeks, thePortage Family Abuse Prevention Centre will plan out their long term strategy for the next 2 to 3 years to maximize the impact of this new infusion of cash. Schrader says she is very excited about that process as she and the steering committee will take the time to review what needs to be done & do it carefully to ensure the money will be wisely and in a way that it will really make a difference for the people that truly need it.
