13 turned out to be a lucky number this weekend for the Portage la Prairie Potato Festival.

Near ideal conditions Friday and yesterday brought good numbers of people to Rotary Republic Park.

Festival Co-chair Cindy McDonald says the committee's beyond thrilled, calling the park a great location.

"A lot of people were skeptical, and I thnk we've changed a lot of peoples' minds. And we've had so many great comments. It's such a great area, and so much area to grow. We had the car show, there was a huge area for the kids. It was just fantastic, we can't say how proud we are of the 13th annual festival."

McDonald thinks the park could be the Festival's permanent home.

"I think after 13 years we finally found it. This it it, this is where we belong. The parking is fantastic. Of course, we've had our issues, absolutely, there are kinks to be worked out, but I think this is it. And the PRRA, partnering with them has been fantastic. So I am convinced that we are not moving again, this is it."

It was as also their first attempt at a two-day event, and McDonald feels that changes peoples' perception of it.

"A festival is more than one day -- it's the perception, right? So, yes, I think it changes the perception that now we have two days of events, instead just being here for the one. And once the Friday night grows, I think we can build on that and I think it'll make a huge difference."
