A local producer says it's shaping up to be a good season. Portage area farmer Craig Finnie says seeding operations are well underway, and if all goes well he'll be done in time for the long weekend.

"Wheat is all in, canola's in, and corn's all in. We just started soybeans today and in two or three days they'll be in. We're going to start edible beans in a day or two, that will only take three or four days. Hopefully if everything goes right we'll be finished by the weekend, or somewhere around there."

While some snow heading into the last weekend may have been cause for concern, Finnie says their crops seemed to have made it through the tough conditions fairly well.

"I don't think it had any impact on our crops. Slowed us down for a day or so, but the crops we seeded are up. They look pretty good for only being two weeks since they were seeded. Moisture conditions were good, but we need a little bit of heat and we'll be in good shape."

He says a bit more rain over the next week or so couldn't hurt the crops, but says overall it's looking like a good season for his crops.
