A two hundred million dollar fish processing facility is in the works for the RM of St. Laurent. Terry Szydlik, Chief Executive Assistant for Community Development First, says the facility will include the processing plant itself as well as a water treatment plant and a wastewater treatment plant. Szydlik notes the start of their timeline is May 1st and the project should take about forty months to complete. He says they'll begin with several months of pre-development work, during which they'll be contacting vendors and engineers to get a better understanding of what's actually required in terms of equipment. Szydlik notes after that the drafting of blueprints will likely take about five or six months, adding by next spring they should be ready to get in the ground.

He says Community Development First chose St. Laurent as the site for this facility because it's a strong fishing community and is located on Highway 6, which gives them easy access to northern Manitoba. Szydlik notes the community is in a great location right on Lake Manitoba, which is another reason why they selected St. Laurent. He adds the primary service provider and lead architect for this project will be Hans Boge Sr., president of Boge and Boge Engineering.
