Get out and try Pickleball this week in Portage la Prairie.

"Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and even ping pong," says Portage Pickleball Club Member Leta Maksymyk. "It's played on a court and it's generally played in doubles with a paddle that's bigger than a ping pong paddle, and a ball that is bigger than a ping pong ball. It's actually a green Wiffle ball with holes all through it. It's really a sport for any age, and it's becoming very popular in the United States."

The sport is also growing strength across Manitoba, and Canada, and you can find out more about the sport here. "It's not just something that is for seniors, although it is something they can play and pick up on very easily," says Maksymyk. "It's in schools across the province, YMCA's, and even retirement communities."

There's a free Pickleball seminar and open house tomorrow at Crescentview School in Portage la Prairie and Maksymyk encourages everyone to come out for some free fun.

"People can come down to get an idea of what the sport is like. Equipment will be provided, there will be some training, and there is no charge for people to come out. All you have to do is wear non-marking shoes, show up and expect to have a great time."

Try pickleball Wednesday Feb. 8, at Crescentview School from 7 to 9 p.m.
