Get out there and enjoy Manitoba's glorious provincial parks at no cost this month.

"We are once again offering free park entry for all provincial parks for the entire month of February," says Sloan Cathcart, Head of Interpretation with Parks Manitoba. "Over the last three years we've had it so park vehicle permits are not required. It's an incentive for all Manitobans to get out and enjoy the winter season, and take advantage of all the trails and opportunities that we have in our provincial parks."

An annual permit for provincial parks is currently only $40. "That will get you into every provincial park in the province except for Riding Mountain National Park. You can also get daily permits for $5 as well."

Cathcart says it's tough to say whether the free month does increase traffic because they don't keep track of visitor stats during the winter, but he says they do hear a lot from visitors saying the parks are quite busy.

"We usually see an uptake at this time of year because we generally have most of our trail systems open and groomed. Usually at this time we've had enough snow and frost and we're able to groom a lot of our trails."

Get out there and enjoy parks like Spruce Woods, Birds Hill, or any of the many other beautiful provincial parks this month.
