It was a beautiful day for the second annual Sunset Palliative Care Garden Party and Art Show which was held this afternoon at the Pelechaty residence on Island Park.

Sunset Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator Aldene Moroz says they were just thrilled with the beautiful setting, the live music from the Sharpe Sisters and the artwork from Prairie Ripples.

Moroz notes the turnout to this year's party was great with an increase of at least 150 people compared to last year. She explains they're really happy so many people attended the garden party.

"It's so nice that people want to support Palliative Care because we do not get any government funding, so this is our way of raising funds to keep the organisation going."

She adds it's also a way to bring more awareness to the community about Sunset Palliative Care and what the organisation does.

Moroz thanks the Sharpe Sisters for their music and the Pelechatys for offering their home and gardens for the event. Don Pelechaty calls it a great pleasure to do so.

"It's a great pleasure to share this lovely home with everyone who wants to enjoy our flowers, we spent a lot of time working on the flowers in the yard. The Sharpe Sisters are performing under a 450-year-old tree that was here when La Verendrye discovered Portage la Prairie. We enjoy this place, we hope to do this every year."

Pelechaty adds the weather for the garden party was also excellent, which was key. He explains yesterday's rain was cause for concern but everything worked out beautifully.
