Delta Beach is catching up on a bit of recovery work from the 2011 flood damage. It's for a breakwater construction project.

"The breakwater structure's right by the channel by the bridge as soon as you pull up into Delta," says RM of Portage la Prairie Reeve Kam Blight. "Some dredging took place in the channel, which is kind of an access point for boats to go on out and access the lake including the fire department and rescue, etc. They use that area for sending boats out."

Blight says they noticed the need, and residents as well as the Delta Beach Association recommended to see more dredging take place somewhat deeper than it currently is. He notes the water is too shallow in some areas for proper boating.

Blight explains they had a change of order made to the first order of work that was set forth to dredge the area, so it will be made a little deeper now.

"The costs ($65,000) are through the Disaster Financial Assistance Program, and the money was already originally allotted," adds Blight. "Basically, they're just doing some fine-tuning of the channel."

He notes it's good news for both boaters in the community as well as emergency personnel and response teams who have to use the water send out boats.
