South River Farms operating southeast and southwest of Portage is having a great harvest this year. Brian Case describes their progress.

Brian Case of South River Farms"Actually very good. We have a half day left, and we're done our wheat. Then we have about two days of canola and then we're ready for the soybeans. Things are looking good after this last week's weather."

He notes things weren't so great just a little while ago.

"The rains held us up for almost a month. We've been at this for a long time. Probably the longest day we had before this week was about four hours, and now we've had about four days in a row. So, it's really nice to be able to stop and enjoy supper for a change. Everything was, 'Just throw a supper in the cab,' and the guys just keep going before the rain hits in the evening time. But this has been a nice run."

Case compares this year with previous ones.

"I would say it's average right now. It's a little depressing because prices are down so low, but actually the yield is fairly good. We were quite concerned with so much water that we were worried we're going to have to be muddying stuff through. But hopefully we've been able to get by so far, and hopefully can finish harvest like that."
