There were a couple of fundraiser barbeques on today in Portage la Prairie, including one in support of the Portage Potato Festival.

Potato Fest Co-chair Cindy McDonald explains since it's a free festival it costs them a lot of money to put it on. She notes the turnout for the barbeque and bake sale fundraiser was great with a steady turnout from the start.

The Herman Prior Centre also held a barbeque and pie sale today to raise funds for the programs and activities offered at the centre.

Executive Director Hope Faschoway comments on how things went.

"It's been going great, the response we've had from the community is just fantastic. Knowing that there's the community behind us, willing to support us and help us with all of our fundraising, especially the barbeque, we've had such an overwhelming amount of people. It's fantastic."

She adds a thank you goes out to everyone who came out to support the barbeque
