It was a great winter season for the BDO Centre for the Community in Portage la Prairie. That's from Portage Community Centre president Shane Moffat, who notes about 25,000 people came through the facility.

"This year was really a huge success for us," explains Moffat. "We had rentals all winter long. I didn't do any headcounts this year. I usually try to figure out approximately how many people came into the community to go through the facility. But if it's been like the other years, we had probably twenty five thousand people come into town."

He says they're planning to install tin on the west wall, after having applied it to the south wall last year. Moffat adds protective netting for the fans around the rink will also be replaced, and stainless steel will be used for countertops. He explains all this is strictly done from funding provided by the community and from grants.

Moffat notes a big project in the works will be announced later, and will be funded by the Canada 150 grant from the City.
