Fundraising's under way in the Interlake town of Fisher Branch, to upgrade greenspaces in the community.

It's spearheaded by the Chamber of Commerce, and a committee's been working on it for roughly two years.

Spokesperson Lori Smith updates us on where they stand.

"We worked with a landscape architect," she says, "to formulate a plan for the area around our wagon wheel, which is our town monument, that signifies the different areas in the RM of Fisher, and district. So we're excited about that. We've got the plans in place, and we're just trying to do the fundraising so we can get the money to get that on the go."

Smith says the effort includes a Go-Fund-Me component, and a commemorative brick fundraiser.

"The Go-Fund-Me page just started," she says, "The wheel was constructed in 2015, which also fundraised for, so it's be going on since then, so we're hoping this year, at least we can lay at least a few bricks. We have applied for a couple of grants, so we're waiting to hear back on those. One of them we didn't get, but we'll keep trying, so we're hoping that the community will stand behind us, and move this project forward."

She adds people in the town and surrounding area are excited.

"The plans are wonderful, and we're real excited to have that done," she says, "So I think the people are in favour of that, and it would be nice, because that's the entrance to town. When people come in, they'll be "wowed" when they come to Fisher Branch, so that's our goal."

The fundraising goal is $250,000, and they hope to have the project complete in two or three years.
