Christmas festivities are taking place throughout the Portage la Prairie region. Among them, Lighthouse Christian School in Southport held its annual Christmas concert Monday night at River Road Gospel Hall. Accelerated Christian Education Canada Manager Alfred MacLaren says more students than ever were involved this year.

Alfred MacLaren and students"This year we have an increase in enrolment and we have 47 students in our small school," notes MacLaren. "People would have seen a lot more students performing. They performed an old-fashioned musical Christmas production where there was a lot of recitation and a lot of singing by individuals, groups, and the choir."

MacLaren says a silent auction fundraiser was held at the concert, which brought it just over $1,700 that will go toward their annual trip to the International Student Convention in Warrensburg, Missouri. He adds fundraisers are required to fund the trip, and they're currently selling hockey calendars as well as fudge for Christmas.
