Perk up your ears---Portage la Prairie is hosting the province's first rabbit show in many years. Manitoba Rabbit Club President Krista Davis says it's very exciting to have the American Rabbit Breeders Association's show at the Herman Prior Centre on Saturday. Davis notes the event will feature all the recognized breeds from the ARBA, adding they also have two judges coming in from the States. She says the show is open to the public so everyone is welcome to come out and have some fun.

Davis notes the judges will be looking at the condition of each rabbit, including the coat, ears, body type and weight. She adds with the fibre breeds such as Angora rabbits, they'll be judging more on the coat of the animal. Davis says rabbit shows are a little different from a dog show, because the rabbits won't be paraded around but will instead be placed on a table for the judge to examine.

She notes because this is the first such event in a long time, the organizers aren't quite sure how many people will participate but they're hoping for a good turnout. Davis adds they do have folks coming from Minnesota, North Dakota, and Saskatchewan in addition to a lot of breeders from all over Manitoba. The rabbit show takes place at the Herman Prior Centre Saturday and doors will open at 7 a.m. with the judging getting underway at 9 o'clock.
