The old hydro building in the municipality of North Norfolk is set to be converted into an EMS station.

Mayor Neil Christoffersen explains this is a solution to the overcrowding in the MacGregor fire hall.

"The ambulance service in MacGregor is being housed right now in the fire hall. EMS has grown, the fire service has grown with the equipment and everything and it's just getting too crowded."

He notes this change won't have much effect on response times but will create more room for training and storage.

Christoffersen explains this is something which has been on the books for some time.

"From November of '15 it's been slowly moving through all the different regulatory approvals and we just got word that the title has changed hands now. It belongs not to Hydro but to the RHA and they're now in the process of doing the study to get the modifications made for the home for the ambulance."

He adds they don't yet have a timeline for completion.
