Head down to Scotiabank today for their Christmas in July Bake Sale in support of the Portage la Prairie Salvation Army.

Major Brenda Coles says the bank usually does a barbecue, but this year they've decided on a bake sale.

"I think in the past they've tried the bake sale and they found it actually made a little more money for them surprisingly than the barbecue. So they're going to give it another try this year and we'll see what happens."

Coles explains why it's necessary.

"It's an important event because July is a slow month for food donations and stuff like that. So this gives us a jumpstart on fundraising for the Christmas Hampers, which is good, and brings attention to the fact that people need food all year round."

She adds it's going to be a fun day at the bank.

"It's different right, Christmas in July. So you walk into the bank and there will probably be Christmas music playing, a kettle there, Santa hats, and a mini toy mountain if people want to bring a toy by to get started on that. It's unusual, and it's fun, and just something a little different for a Monday morning in July."

The Bake Sale runs from 9:30 this morning until 4 in the afternoon.
