There's a new single window grant application intake procedure for municipalities to apply for federal and provincial funding.

Applications can now be accepted for the cost-shared infrastructure funding programs including Municipal Road and Bridge Program, New Building Canada Fund / Small Communities Fund, Public Transit Infrastructure Fund and Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. Municipalities can apply for all four grant programs through a single portal. Applications must be submitted before August 26, 2016.

RM of Portage la Prairie reeve Kam Blight says they've already slated some projects for application.

"Any chance there's an opportunity to get some support from the provincial and federal government for funding on projects, we have to make sure we try and take advantage of it. And we've always had some ongoing projects that have been identified that we wanted to address in the near future. Some of them are part of our future capital plan and infrastructure works. So, we saw an opportunity here to assist with some additional funding."

Blight says the new system's great.

"I'm very encouraged by this and very grateful for the opportunity to apply. I'm grateful for the new application procedure that's in place. And hopefully we're fortunate enough to be approved on one, two, or three applications. It does make sense. It's a lot easier to apply. It's all one single application. It works very well."
