A new temporary exhibit is being featured at the RCA Museum at CFB Shilo.

The Somme: The Mechanization of War will run until the end of November.

Senior Curator Kathleen Christianson explains what it's all about.

“The content is focusing on the experience of men and machine meeting together in battle in a 20th century experience,” she said. “It is a type of warfare that human history had never seen before.”

Christianson notes the WWI exhibit places a specific focus on Newfoundlanders' role in the battle of the Somme, which took place in 1916, adding that Newfoundland was not part of Canada at the time.

On display is a WWI transport truck, as well as an ambulance and artillery piece.
